Programs & Services
Fur Pets Sake offers programs and services customized based on community need and collaboration. The following is a broad overview of the solutions we offer.
Community Dog Management Initiative
The Community Dog Management Initiative supports individual communities in creating and implementing a community-driven action plan including creating or modifying bylaws to address dog management issues and gives communities the tools they need to reduce the problems created by dog overpopulation and improve animal welfare in rural and First Nations communities.
Community Spay and Neuter Clinics
The Community Spay and Neuter Clinics program aims to improve the welfare of the animals and increase public safety by reducing the number of unwanted dogs. The programs aids in offsetting the travel costs involved in accessing spay and neuter surgeries for residents of rural and First Nations communities by teaming up with mobile spay and neuter clinics to provide communities with spay and neuter clinics. These clinics are staffed with professionally trained, fully-licensed veterinarians and technicians. The veterinary team temporarily enters a community, aiming to surgically sterilize a large proportion of its free-roaming dogs and cats, typically in partnership with community members.
Wellness Clinics
Wellness Clinics provide additional wellness services including vaccines, microchip, flea/ tick control, deworming, nail trimming and basic grooming through our partner clinics. Our in-house clinics also provide resources and education around animal wellness and behaviour topics.
Bite Prevention and Humane Education Programs
Through these programs we educate school-age children around bite prevention and responsible pet ownership. These programs focuses on fun and interactive activities to teach children how to read dog body language and how to act safely around both their own dog and unfamiliar dogs.
Surrender and Adoptions
We work collectively with local rescues and SPCA'S to help assist communities with surrenders and strays and improve access to these services. Although Fur Pets Sake facilitates connections and working relationships with animal rescues, our society is not itself an animal rescue organization.
Disaster Management Planing
Including animals in disaster management planning is essential part of disaster preparedness. People depend on animals for their livelihoods and for companionship ― it is essential to protect animals as a part of the planning process. Fur Pets Sake offers training, advice, expertise, and guidelines to help communities protect and care for their animals in the event of a disaster. We provide communities with the tools and training to establish sustainable solutions to safeguard their animals.
